Mental health can be described as “the successful performance of mental function, resulting in productive activities, fulfilllling relationships with other people, contributing to his or her community and the ability to adapt to change and to cope with the normal stresses of life”. Part of being human is to feel, experience and express a range of emotions, such as happiness, joy, anger, frustration, sadness and pain. If we experience loss, whether through death or separation, it is natural and normal to feel that loss, to experience intense grief and sadness. Usually these are temporary feelings that will diminish with time. Problems occur when feelings of anger, frustration, grief, sadness and pain remain with us for too long and affect our ability to live and function. Mental ill-health is associated with rapid social change, stressful work conditions, gender diskrimination, social exclusion, unhealthy lifestyles, risks of violence and physical ill-health and human rights violations. There are also specific psychological and personality factors that make people vulnerable to mental disorders. Furthermore there can be biological causes of mental ill-health including genetic factors and imbalances in chemicals in the brain. Mental ill-health can be complex and confronting. Appropriate and timely guidance, information, support and understanding can make a significant difference to someone with a behavioral health problem. The Mind Screen is comprehensive in its coverage of 30 of the most common behavioral health conditions and it asks questions from a pool of over 400 questions of which most people answer about 100 questions in 15-30 minutes.

In addition to the 30 behavioral health conditions above, the Mind Screen asks questions about whether you are currently on any medication or have been in the past. It will also ask about your family behavioral health history, if any, and other 'environmental' or life history factors that could be a cause or trigger for possible behavioral health issues. These often personal questions can be easier to answer to a computer than face to face with your practitioner but that doesn't mean the Mind Screen is impersonal - far from it. We often have patients share with us that they found doing their Mind Screen a very therapeutic and personal experience! In fact, research shows that patients are more open and honest when responding to a computer-based assessment tool than they are in a face to face consultation. This is important because early assessment is about providing your practitioner with as much information as possible, as quickly as possible. It is important to remember that the Mind Screen is NOT intended to replace your practitioner and it is NOT a diagnostic tool. It simply asks all the questions that would take your practitioner a lot more time to ask and provides them with a basis to ask further questions when you next meet and form their diagnosis. It saves everyone a lot of time and gets you to the point of diagnosis a lot sooner than would otherwise have been possible. So remember, if your practitioner has arrived at a diagnosis after asking you a handful of questions or using a 10 or 20 question questionnaire, then you ought to be asking yourself whether that is possible. Consider doing a Mind Screen today and your nominated practitioner will receive a secure and confidential multi-disorder assessment report.
