What is a Mind Screen?
The Mind Screen is a secure online behavioral health self assessment application that assesses a broad range of behavioral health concerns. As the patient you answer a series of questions (no typing is required) that results in your nominated practitioner receiving a Mind Screen Report. The report is comprehensive and assists your practitioner to quickly arrive at a diagnosis so they can commence treatment as required. The Mind Screen is a new technology for real time practitioner-patient interaction and follow up that leads to better behavioral health outcomes.
How accurate is the Mind Screen?
The Mind Screen is an assessment tool and not a diagnostic tool. It is a patient self assessment tool which records the patient's responses and provides them in a report for the practitioner and patient to review together. The information collected is more comprehensive and accurate than information collected in face-to-face consultations with the patient because the patient is more open and honest when responding to a computer. This phenomenon is well-known by educators and care-givers in the social and psychological sciences. Armed with the Mind Screen Report the practitioner is then responsible for asking further questions relating to the possible areas of concern prior to arriving at their final diagnosis.
Can the Mind Screen ever be wrong?
As The Mind Screen is a self assessment, it is as accurate as the patient’s response to the questions. As is the case with all clinical interviews, the Mind Screen Report reflects the patient's responses with 100% accuracy to the extent the patient tells the truth about their values and feelings at the time of the interview.
What age group is the Mind Screen intended for?
The Mind Screen is intended for use for anyone over the age of 15 who is genuinely seeking to get better and is therefore providing truthful answers. Use of the Mind Screen by patients under the age of 15 is up to the diskretion and professional judgment of the practitioner.
How does the Mind Screen work?
When a practitioner identifies a patient, or a patient identifies themselves as possibly benefiting from a Mind Screen session, they create a Mind Screen session by clicking on the red Login/Register button in the top right of this website. When the session is created, the patient logs in with their Session ID and Session Password. Questions are asked one at a time and the next question asked is based on the previous answer given. The adaptive or ‘intelligent’ questionnaire therefore only asks questions relevant to the patient. When all of the questions have been completed, the patient will be prompted to book a follow up consultation with their nominated practitioner who will also immediately receive an email letting them know the patient will soon be booking a consultation to review their Mind Screen Report.
How is the Mind Screen better than existing psychometric/psychiatric evaluation tests?
Firstly, the Mind Screen is not a psychometric test. A psychometric test is not a clinical evaluation for behavioral health purposes, but rather a tool often used by recruitment firms or HR departments to assess a person’s suitability to a particular job profile. Nor, is the Mind Screen a computer-generated “Personality Profile.” The Mind Screen is a clinical multi-disorder behavioral health self assessment tool where the results are only accessible by the patient through their nominated behavioral health practitioner. Compared with single disorder outcome tools the Mind Screen has significant advantages. Primarily, single-disorder tools are only able to provide an assessment of one or two disorders in isolation. The Mind Screen is unique in its ability to assess multiple disorders simultaneously which is extremely important in helping practitioners to reach accurate differential diagnoses. The fact the Mind Screen is in an electronic form also enables it to append significant other functionality such as ongoing patient management and tracking of progress, treatment planning, recording of patient history, family history and medication history.
Should I use the Mind Screen instead of seeing my practitioner?
No. Absolutely not. The Mind Screen is not a diagnostic tool and must not replace your practitioner whether they are a Family Physician, clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, behavioral health nurse or specialist physician. The Mind Screen is a tool to help you and your practitioner collect and organize information far more quickly than would be possible in multiple face to face consultations.
Where was the Mind Screen developed?
The Mind Screen was developed by Family Physicians, psychologists and psychiatrists in both Australia and the US. The Harvard School of Medicine is undertaking further research into the use of the Mind Screen in Primary Care and four other studies involving the Mind Screen are underway in Brazil with one of these a joint study with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
Is the Mind Screen secure?
Yes, the Mind Screen application itself and the Mind Screen website is fully secure and protected by the strongest 2048-bit and SHA-2 encryption technology available from DigiCert which is used by half of the Alexa Top Ten websites, along with 70,000 other sites in 146 countries including Facebook, PayPal, Intel, NASA and IBM.
What if my practitioner is not on the list of practitioners I can nominate to receive my Mind Screen Report?
At this point you can only nominate a Mind Screen accredited practitioner to receive your Mind Screen Report. However, if your practitioner is not on the drop down list linked to your post code, and you would like them to receive your Mind Screen Report, please email email@example.com with your practitioner's name, practice name and phone number and we will seek to get them accredited.
What are your criteria for accrediting practitioners?
Practitioners need to be listed on the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) www.ahpra.gov.au website to be eligible to receive your Mind Screen Report.
I am outside of Australia. Can I still use the Mind Screen?
Yes, you can, but you will still be required to access your Mind Screen Report through an Australian Mind Screen accredited practitioner. When you nominate a practitioner upon registration, you will need to make arrangements to have a face to face or telehealth consultation with that practitioner.
What does the Mind Screen cost?
The Mind Screen fee is $AU59 per session payable online by credit card or alternatively, if your session is set up by your practitioner then your practitioner may choose to pay and add the Mind Screen to your consultation invoice.
I tried to pay online but it is not accepting my card. Am I doing something incorrectly?
Common mistakes made on the patient payment screen include selecting one card type and entering the details of another card, using an expired card, incorrectly entering card details or the CVV (Card Verification Value) numbers, or using a card that is over it's maximum credit limit. When three attempts to pay are made in succession, Mind Screen's payment gateway provider will 'lock you out for 24 hours' after which you can try again. If you continue to have difficulties, please email your phone number to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will do our best to help.
Is there a Medicare or other government rebate for patients?
Mental health screening applications are currently not covered by Australia's Medicare legislation but we hope they will be in the future since we believe mental wellness is just as important as physical health.
Do private health insurers cover behavioral health?
Please consult your private health insurer directly to diskuss private insurance coverage. In time we will provide a list of those schemes that do and they will be invited to register their details, and their billing codes, on our website for your convenience. Until then, please speak with your private health insurer directly.
Can I use the Mind Screen without an internet connection?
No, the Mind Screen application is an Internet-based application and as such you need a computer with an internet connection to use the system.
Can I use my unsecured wireless connection?
The Mind Screen application can be run securely over a wireless connection because the DigiCert technology ensures that your data is secure and protected at all times.
What should I do if the Mind Screen does not come up in the browser or I get a “Page Not Found” error?
How long does it take to complete a Mind Screen session?
Most people complete a Mind Screen session in about 15-30 minutes. Some may be a little faster and some may take longer. There is no minimum or maximum time limit within which a patient must complete their Mind Screen session.
What if I can't complete my Mind Screen session in one sitting?
If a Mind Screen session is interrupted for any reason the Mind Screen remembers the last question answered and you can resume your session at another time from exactly where you left off.
Do I get to see the Assessment Report?
Yes, you are entitled to see your Assessment Report. By doing the Mind Screen you will have agreed with the terms and conditions that require this to be made available only through your practitioner. If, for whatever reason, your practitioner chooses not to proceed with a consultation with you, we will ask you to nominate another Mind Screen accredited practitioner. If you would rather not nominate another practitioner, we will refund your Mind Screen fee and destroy the assessment and report.
Why should my practitioner use the Mind Screen when he/she uses other behavioral health assessment methods?
If you are completely satisfied with your practitioner's current approach to behavioral health assessment, then don't use the Mind Screen. However, we would encourage you to confirm whether your practitioner's current behavioral health assessment method offers the following benefits and features:
If your practitioner's current behavioral health assessment method does not offer all of the above then please consider recommending the Mind Screen to your practitioner or consider a practitioner who understands the above benefits of early, multi-disorder assessment.
Why do I need to see a practitioner when I've done a Mind Screen?
Seeing a practitioner is the only way to get access to your Mind Screen Report. The Mind Screen is not designed to replace your interaction with a behavioral health practitioner. The Mind Screen is a screening and outcome application that helps your practitioner collect patient driven information quickly and accurately and in a format that can be easily used by that practitioner and/or their staff. Most importantly, the Mind Screen frees up the practitioner’s valuable time so they and/or their qualified staff can spend quality time with you on Treatment Planning and monitoring progress with the aid of the Continuous Monitoring Graphs.
If I have no computer skills can I complete a Mind Screen session?
Yes. The Mind Screen only requires that you are able to read at a 12 year-old level. Questions are answered by clicking a mouse on answer buttons on the screen. In circumstances where the patient is unable to read the questions they can be assisted by having the questions read aloud to them.
Does the Mind Screen Report get emailed to the nominated practitioner?
The Mind Screen Report is not emailed to your practitioner. Your practitioner accesses the Mind Screen Report using their own unique Username and Password.
Can I provide suggestions and input into future versions of the Mind Screen?
Absolutely, Global Mind Screen Group seeks to continually improve its systems, processes, the Mind Screen application itself and of course its customer service. Your feedback is welcomed and whenever we can make improvements with immediate effect we will do so. Otherwise, we will seek to include feedback into future versions of the Mind Screen.
